As many of you are aware, I became
a cancer survivor in late January of 2016, after suffering about 8 months with
what I thought was back pain from something stupid I had done. Tests, after tests, after tests and the
doctors finally confirmed that I had Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC)
which was devastating news enough on its own but then to find out that there
was no cure was even more devastating.
I was thinking how could this happen to me, I’ve been healthy all my life,
never had a broken bone and breast cancer does not run in my family. WTH!
Most of you know, I am a “slightly” competitive person so I knew I was
taking on the fight of my life. The
expectation was bleak, needless to say, yet here I am still after 2 ½ years,
continuing to take my daily medications and keeping my fingers crossed it will
continue to keep my cancer cells inactive!
It is my hope that soon MBC will have a cure and with the help of
donations for research I firmly believe that will happen, whether in my
lifetime or not, I know it will happen!
I am super excited that this
year, my employer, WPX Energy, Inc. is a sponsor for the Susan G Komen Race for
the cure. Whether you want to run, walk
or just donate – please help this wonderful organization continue to fight
cancer and find more cures!
