As with all cancer diagnoses, breast cancer is a devastating disease and so incredibly personal. The emotions that the person fighting this disease and their families go through is difficult to describe. I am beyond grateful that I am healthy 9 years later. Having the opportunity to watch my kids grow, be an active part of their upbringing and part of our family as a whole is a gift that I hope I never take for granted. This May, as Caleb finished his freshman year of high school, and Peyton graduated from high school and starts the next chapter of her life this fall, it was never lost on me that if it wasn’t for Komen and their research dollars, I might not have been here to be a part of it. Instead, Komen’s research led to the drug Herceptin, and I am here today as a result! That’s a gift that can never be repaid, but the best way I know to show appreciation for all that Komen has done for me, my family and for countless others is to give back.
Teryl and I want to extend a HUGE shout out for the generous support that has been graciously shown to our past efforts to Rally for this cause that is so near and dear to our hearts.
Komen Tulsa does such great work in the community because of supporters like you including assisting 3 rural hospitals replace outdated mammography equipment, offering patient navigation training services to the medical community and lay person free of charge, providing funding to organizations like Oklahoma Project Woman so that mammograms can be provided at no cost, offering personal support by pairing a newly diagnosed patient with a breast cancer survivor, and the list goes on. Komen is one of the largest funders of breast cancer research second only to the U.S. government. Additionally, Komen has been involved in every major breakthrough related to this difficult and challenging to treat disease. Your dollars really do make a difference. Anyone who donates $100 or more to the Rally with the Roses team before September 15th will automatically be entered into a drawing for either a Coach purse and coordinating wallet OR a YETI cooler (pictures attached). Pam Ballard, Komen Tulsa’s CEO, will choose the lucky winners on September 15th. Plus, don’t forget to fill out your company’s Matching Grant Form to double your impact!
Together, we are fueling the best science, boldest community and biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. And we will not stop until this disease is gone forever. That’s our promise. Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation today?
Everyone deserves a lifetime!
